Lawrence Revere: A Blackjack Controversy

Naming Lawrence Revere a Blackjack controversy may not be something overrated at all, since over his career of being a professional Blackjack player — and a professional Blackjack dealer, if you are wondering how the controversy started — he is surrounded by a lot of ambiguous issues and controversies.

Revere wasn’t a bad Blackjack player at all. He began his professional gambling career in 1943, and managed to be one of the best professional players in history. What makes him and his 28 years of spectacular gambling career is that he spent his time as a pit boss, a dealer, an owner, and troubleshooter as well as a professional Blackjack player.

Many argued about his double-agent status. Some people thought being a dealer may have positive impacts on Revere’s Blackjack playing skills. Other considered Revere’s act of working for both sides as unethical and highly inappropriate.

Revere’s largest and most notable accomplishment is of course his infamous book: Playing Blackjack as a Business. The book is noted as one of the best books about Blackjack, allowing new players to study different aspects of the game and experienced players to see the game as a profitable business. Blackjack is a very profitable as well as beatable game indeed, and Revere successfully pointed out some of the skills and methods players can use to be much more successful at Blackjack tables.

Controversies aside, Revere is still acknowledged as one of the best professional Blackjack players the world has ever seen. The Blackjack legend died of cancer on April 23rd, 1977.

Edward Thorp: The Man behind the Best Blackjack Book

People who love to play Blackjack usually know Edward Thorp. Dr. Thorp’s book, Beat the Dealer: A Winning Strategy for the Game of Twenty One, is probably the best Blackjack book ever created. Millions of people read the book until today. Dr. Thorp is known to be one of the best Blackjack players, with his cool complexion and superb calculation whenever he played.

Dr. Thorp introduced the Ten Count System. He virtually started the card counting usage in the game of Blackjack, with most of the card counting techniques you know today somehow use his Ten Count theories in more ways than one. Dr. Thorp is considered to be one of the best enemies of casino owners at his time. Although colleagues and fellow scientists agreed to his theories, casino owners are worried about facts that are presented in his book. They ended up changing some of the rules to keep their share of high house advantage. After casino players boycotted the change of rules, casino owners and players made a consensus to use four decks of cards instead of single deck at Blackjack tables.

Dr. Thorp owns a successful company in Newport Beach, California, Edward O. Thorp and Associates. He is a successful investor — he also published a book titled “Beat the Market: A Scientific Stock Market System” — and still considered a Blackjack legend until today. If you are interested in studying his methods, grab his latest Blackjack book, Beat the Dealer (revised edition), and see for yourself how you can beat the game of Blackjack.

Blackjack Tournament: Features

Blackjack tournaments are getting more popular, especially after TV stations aired the World Series of Blackjack. Several online casinos are also scheduling regular Blackjack tournaments with huge grand prizes. You need to understand some of the features of Blackjack tournaments before you can conquer the event and win the big cash prize.

First of all, Blackjack tournament dealers use rotating deal when dealing cards. As opposed to the usual counter clockwise dealing, the dealer will start with different players as the game progresses by the round. The first player to place bets is also rotated using similar rule. Several tournaments use a rule called “Secret Bet”. With this particular rule in play, the last bet of every round is hidden and only revealed after each player finishes the play.

Different Blackjack tournaments may use different progressing rules. Some tournaments use Two Players per Round, where two players — instead of the usual one — are allowed to progresses to the next round at the end of each round. Two Players One Round rule uses the same principle, but two players are allowed to progress at the first round only; on the following rounds, only one player get to continue to the next round. In elimination rounds, player with the lowest bankroll is eliminated while other players continue to the next round.

Last but not least, you can also find tournaments where re-entry is allowed. You can reenter the competition by paying the entrance fee again, although the amount of re-entry allowed is limited to one.

A Blackjack Skill from the Past

Shuffle tracking used to be one of the best Blackjack winning strategies back in the old days. As the game got modernized with shuffling machines and even continues shuffling machines, the technique is getting less effective. However, there are several occasions when you may be able to use the technique to help you win at Blackjack tables. The technique is also considered to be less scientific. When paired with card counting methods such as the KO system, however, shuffle tracking can be quite effective. Let’s take a look at how the strategy works and how you can master the technique quickly.

The method is generally pretty simple yet complicated at the same time. It requires you to keep track of where a run of high cards are through a shuffle before correctly predicting where those cards are and cutting the deck favorably for the player. Although you may think this is a simple guess technique, a lot of professional Blackjack players managed to make fantastic guesses that makes the a lot more profitable.

The technique is quite out dated and cannot be used in online Blackjack games since the online version uses random number generator to shuffle cards at the end of each round, yet you should still keep this particular technique for times in need. You can still use the technique with some of the older shuffling machines. Combine it with other card counting method, and you can have a solid strategy to help you stay profitable at Blackjack tables.

The Story of Las Vegas ‘Robin Hood’

If you think gambling is all about fun and money, you should really read this story. A professional Blackjack player nicknamed ‘Robin Hood’ is becoming more of a Blackjack legend after the player’s successful attempt to help a family with $35,000 of debts last year. As you can easily conclude, the nickname ‘Robin Hood’ is given to this player whose identity remained secret because of his Robin Hood like attitude.

There is no doubt that ‘Robin Hood’ means nothing but sincere passion to help the need, since he offered the family at least half the money they need even when he loses. If he wins the game, the family gets all the money they needed. ‘Robin Hood’ is also a skilful Blackjack player, since his bold attempt to help others only mean one thing: he knows what he is doing.

This year, the ‘Robin Hood’ is out again and currently seeking for a family that needs his help. He is actually looking for a family with financial problems and a touching background story. If you think the man can help you solve financial problems caused by tragic incidents or other causes, you should visit his site, RobinHood702.com, and submit your story.

I personally consider this a great effort to help others in need. Although the method might be a little unorthodox, the Blackjack player is actually a modern Robin Hood trying to help people in need his own way. All he knows is how to win at Blackjack tables, and that is exactly what he does.
